What are graphic overlays?

Graphic overlays are printed interface layers placed on front covers, providing symbols, text, embossings and branding while protecting the underlying components.

At Mekoprint, our graphic overlays are screen or digitally printed foils and films, typically used as HMI covers or control panel overlays.

Unlike labels or decals, they often include adhesive-free areas for embossed keys, LED openings, and display cutouts, ensuring seamless interaction.

Selecting the right material

Selecting the right material is essential for ensuring the durability and performance of your graphic overlays. At Mekoprint, we offer two primary options: polycarbonate, which provides excellent impact resistance and is ideal for rigid, long-lasting overlays; and polyester, known for its flexibility and high resistance to chemicals, making it well-suited for harsh or demanding environments.

To further enhance longevity and usability, overlays can be treated with special coatings—including scratch resistance, chemical resistance, UV protection, and peel-off protective layers. These coatings help ensure that the overlays remain clear, functional, and visually appealing even under tough conditions.

Reliable adhesion

To ensure overlays stay securely in place, we offer two reliable adhesive solutions. Laminated adhesive films provide full-surface adhesion, delivering strong and even bonding across the entire area of the overlay. Alternatively, silk screen-printed adhesives allow for selective bonding, making them ideal for overlays that include windows, buttons, or display cut-outs. Peel-off protective layers can also be printed onto the overlay to facilitate assembly and help ensure a clean, high-quality appearance.
