Investment in CO2 neutral production
At Mekoprint, green energy is a high-priority area of investment in order to achieve CO2 neutral production in 2025 at all 10 factories in Denmark, Poland and Ukraine.
To fulfill this ambition, several investments have already been made to optimize our ventilation system’s energy usage, which is one of the largest and typically not well-known energy consumers. In addition, the conversion to green energy sources is essential, with several completed investments and new ones on the way in Mekoprint.
Solar energy is essential
One of our most important investment areas is solar cells, which have already been implemented at two of our factories in Denmark, to support our energy needs as directly and efficiently as possible. In addition, there are solar cells on their way to our new factory in Ukraine, while the remaining share of electricity consumption at all our factories is expected to be covered by investment in a larger solar cell park and the use of wind turbine power.
The solar cells that have already been installed at the two factories in Denmark cover an area of 3,500 m² and contribute with an annual electricity production of over ½ million kWh., which corresponds to approximately 1/3 of the factories´ consumption. This also corresponds to the average annual power consumption of over 350 people.
Replacement of natural gas on the way
With CO2 neutral power consumption, heating with natural gas can also be phased out and replaced by heat pumps. It has already been started at three factories in Denmark and is being evaluated in Poland.
With the investments in green energy, before the end of 2025, all components will be produced with CO2 neutral processes at all Mekoprint’s factories. In addition, the remaining CO2 consumption related to raw materials and transport is being analyzed and included in a CO2 calculator for joint optimization in both existing and new products. In this way, we purposefully work towards becoming an even more sustainable production and consulting partner for you as the customer. More detailed information on the progress towards Mekoprint becoming CO2 neutral in 2025 will follow throughout 2024, together with information about the new possibility of calculating the total CO2 footprint on each individual component.
