The North Jutland manufacturer of operating solutions is strengthening and expanding the organisation at its subsidiary in Hong Kong. The hiring of a quality engineer will strengthen and complete the company’s Asian value chain.
The distance from North Jutland to Asia is long, but it is shortened by strong cooperation. This has prompted Mekoprint to expand and move even closer to its Asian supply chain. In addition to having extensive Danish production capacity, the company also works with a number of Asian production partners – and in this respect the company in Hong Kong is an important integrator.
First-hand knowledge of risk management
Morten Lundgreen is the divisional director at Mekoprint Graphic Electronics, and with regard to the background to the ramping up he tells us that in the past year the company has shown why it is important to be very close to the Asian supply chain.
“COVID-19 and regional tensions in Asia have very much been on our agenda. Risk management and related decisions have been based on first-hand knowledge from local Asian colleagues. This has meant we’ve been able to act and communicate proactively to our customers, almost on an hourly basis.”
Higher complexity requires local presence
Ramping up in Asia is a strategic decision that, with the hiring of a new quality engineer, is being executed faster than originally planned. This is because Mekoprint is experiencing increasing complexity in the products produced in Asia,” says Søren Kold, General Manager of Mekoprint Hong Kong.
“Our customers feel secure knowing that we are present with local skills in development, quality, logistics and customer support. By increasing manning in Hong Kong, we’ll have a better opportunity to support and develop our production partners, and to advise them on the production of operating solutions with greater complexity than before.”
Local, but also digital
In terms of timing, the organisational expansion coincides with another initiative that has also been launched to complete the strong cooperation. It has to be easy to do business with us is Mekoprint’s mantra, and they are backing this up with a newly launched digital platform where customers always have direct access to relevant information about the cooperation.
“We need to be able to make quick decisions on an informed basis. With Mekoprint Direct, we see everything in real time and can make customer decisions around the clock immediately. It makes a big difference,” is the statement from System Cleaners, one of the customers that has already embraced the new platform.
