OVERLAYS, DISPLAY FOILS AND COMBINATION FOILS
Overlays, display foils and combination foils (with electrically conductive circuits) are created with a graphical appearance and placed as the outermost layer on the machine or behind a glass or plastic surface. In the foils, it is possible to add integrated light diffusion, dead front/blackout effect, embossing of keys as well as laser engraving and laser marking.

Adhesive graphic overlays are typically used as brand identification and user interface if the machine has mechanical keys.

Combination foils that combine graphic foil with a capacitive touch sensor have built-in touch functionality.

Based on Mekoprint’s extensive knowledge of colour, industrial foils and digital printing, as well as screen printing technology, we can make a difference all the way from development to delivery.

DESIGN AND CONSTRUCTION

In the development of graphic overlays, display foils and combination foils, it is possible to vary all the key features by the use of colour, lacquer, texture, light diffusion and blackness. The construction of the foil may, if necessary, be optimised for scratch resistance, chemical resistance and UV protection.

Depending on the application environment and use situation, printing may be done on both the front and back of the foils.

Depending on design, the graphic overlays and foils may undergo a series of processes after printing – including, e.g. laminating, laser cutting, embossing and die cutting.

The foil is always delivered ready for assembly with the right adhesive, selected based on where the item will be placed. The items can be delivered as individual items stamped into format, on sheets or on rolls for automated processing in production.

OPTIMISED PRODUCTION

SHEET PRODUCTION
As a rule, overlays are produced by digital printing or screen printing and finishing in Mekoprint’s sheet production.

The production is standardised and streamlined to ensure a consistent quality. A number of processes are automated to improve cost, tolerances and turnaround time.

ROLL-TO-ROLL-PRODUCTION
If the need for overlays and display foils exceeds 200 metres per production batch, and if high volumes are required in the future, it may be more convenient to produce the items in our fully automatic R2R production setup, where the items are screen printed.

This production mode makes Mekoprint foils highly competitive in a global perspective.
