The need for a production partner with focus at cost-efficiency through R&D competences and production automation layed the foundation for the partnership between MariCare and Mekoprint.
The Finnish company MariCare Oy was the first to develop and implement smart floor systems for the health care and nursing homes. With more than 4,000 installation references, they are a leading provider of sensor technology used for detecting fall, motion, and position on floors.
The Elsi® Smart Floor is primarily an invisible nurse. A helping tool for fall-prevention and fall-detection. It is a professional proactive care aid as the system provides tools for tracking activity with high privacy requirements and abnormal behaviour patterns around the clock.
Various alarms and notifications will be activated in case of accidents as the sensors are connected to the caregivers smartphones. A technology and pioneering project from the early IoT age.
Final development and design for manufacturing
MariCare chose Mekoprint as their production partner. The co-operation assured the cost effectiveness through R&D competence and production automation. We took part in the final development process ensuring a globally competitive cost level with design for manufacturing.
Sensor and production design
The solution is composed of a series of complementing processes. The sensor consists of a thin copper plated foil that is firstly screen printed and secondly etched. For the Elsi® Smart Floor this combination is especially suitable due to the high conductivity of the copper.
The sensors are manufactured in our highly automated roll-to-roll production setup with a minimum of manual handling. They are subsequently delivered to MariCare on rolls – continuing the automated production at their production site.
