I work with programming the machines in the milling department at Mekoprint Mechanics in Aalborg. My job concerns choosing between different milling methods, loading it into a 3D file and developing various fixture and clamping methods. My responsibility is to generate program codes for the milling machines and ensure that the milled items and fixtures look right. When I joined Mekoprint, my job was to operate the milling machines, making sure that they were running as they should. At one point, I expressed to my manager in a staff development interview that I wanted to learn how to program the machines. I was both allowed to and trained in it.
When I arrive at work, I usually start the computer first. Then I go and talk to colleagues about whether the things running on the machine are running properly. And from there, what my day offers can be very varied. For example, if the workpieces aren’t being milled with enough precision, we need to get to work to find out why. Or a colleague may need help in performing a task. A big part of our work is also to assess whether some processes can be optimised to make them more efficient. So, although my work is very focused on the programming of the machines, there may be many different kinds of tasks during the day.
Why is it exciting to work at Mekoprint?
I like the challenges we get – the fact that we are allowed to figure out how to do the different things ourselves, and how things should be drawn to make the production of the workpieces perform in the best possible manner.
What is the best thing about working at Mekoprint?
I have great colleagues, and we have excellent collaboration. There are never any problems, and we find it easy to talk to each other if there are issues or if someone needs help solving a task.
