Mekoprint has been focused on waste sorting for decades, which is why the current recycling rate lies at 85-95 %. This is exceptionally high compared to other industrial companies and has now led to a Gold Certification for the Mekoprint Micromechanics division from Ragn-Sells, which undertakes collection, processing, and refinement of all types of waste and residual products.

A continued focus on minimizing waste quantities and perceiving waste as a resource has proven to be fruitful with the highest possible recognition for our waste management from the environmental service company Ragn-Sells – one of the largest players in waste management in Scandinavia. Mekoprint received the so-called reThink certification at a Gold level from Ragn-Sells due to the company’s targeted effort to promote recycling and reuse.

"The certification is a proof that we have implemented a wide range of initiatives for the benefit of the environment and climate. We primarily perceive waste as a resource, and it is therefore natural to optimize our sorting of waste and contribute to more recycling and reuse. Circular thinking is very important to us."

Mekoprint’s certification comes in continuation of Ragn-Sells having mapped the company’s waste fractions. This has led to Mekoprint increasing the number of fractions to 43 and optimizing waste management. Thus, the waste is, to the greatest extent possible, incorporated into circular resource cycles once Ragn-Sells has processed the waste and forwarded it – primarily to the recycling industry.

For example, “hard plastic” ends up in the same container at most companies. But Mekoprint takes it a step further by analysing what type of plastic it is, as it provides clean fractions that can be used for different purposes.

Made it easy to sort

Pia Johansen from Ragn-Sells believes that a great commitment at Mekoprint and prioritization of internal communication have been very important for the project.

"It influences the whole organization that the management sends a clear signal that Mekoprint should prioritize sustainability, including high recycling rates and the lowest possible CO2 emissions. Good internal communication about the necessity of caring for the environment and climate and contributing to the global goals has resulted in everyone at Mekoprint now viewing waste as a resource", says Pia Johansen.

Mekoprint sorts waste at all the company’s locations, but the division Mekoprint Micromechanics in Støvring is the furthest ahead with sorting. The experiences from that division will now be used at the company’s other factories.
