Anodizing of aluminium is an electrochemical process in which the surface is converted to a hard, decorative, protective layer of aluminium oxide. This kind of aluminium surface treatment ensures a non-electrically-conductive surface with an increase in corrosion resistance.
The process is also used to create a protective and decorative layer on the aluminium, which improves resistance to corrosion and wear. Different colours can be created with anodizing.

The thickness of the anodizing layer is 12 to 30 microns, depending on colour, material and what the workpieces are to be used for. Workpieces for outdoor use should have a thicker anodizing than workpieces for indoor use.
